his own hands.  Note the clay pots and osmunda/sphagnum mix used in those days -

no fertiliser allowed! 

The mossy wall and the condensation shows

the snug and steamy stove-house conditions under which Paphs (then known as Cyps)

were grown in earlier times.  Air circulation fans were not used;  for good air movement

one simply opened the overhead vents.
